Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson

Born July 10, 1980 in Abilene, Texas, American pop singer Jessica Ann Simpson was raised in a small suburb of Dallas, the daughter of Joe and Tina Simpson. Jessica and her younger sister, Ashlee, who began her music career in 2004, were a big part of the church, as their father is a former youth minister for the Baptist church. Jessica’s singing career started out in the church choir and still is influenced by Christian music today.

When Jessica was discovered by a contemporary Christian record label, it was when she was singing at a church camp. After spending three years recording an album, the label went under before it was released. This did not stop Jessica, however, and she spent the next year touring with the Christian Youth Conference and promoted her demo album. It wasn’t long before Tommy Mottola of Columbia Records had a copy of the album and believed she had potential as a pop singer.

When Jessica released her debut album in 1999, titled Sweet Kisses reached #25 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and as her single “I Wanna Love You Forever” was a smash hit, it sent Jessica souring to success. Jessica released the album Irresistible in 2001 and was successful by reaching the top ten of the U.S. Billboard 200. With her singing career a success, Jessica began to focus on her acting career, appearing on “That 70’s Show”, as well as “The Twilight Zone”.

Marrying Nick Lachey in October of 2002, Jessica’s name soon became a household word as in the summer of 2003, they appeared on MTV’s reality show, Newlyweds. Her third album, In This Skin was released in 2003, as well, although it was not a successful as her previous two, it came back onto the charts in the spring of 2004 with a special collector’s edition came out and sold over 3 million copies in the U. S. alone. While the show was a success, Jessica earned the reputation of being a “dumb blonde” on the show.

In 2004, Jessica starred in a variety show with her husband and in the summer of 2004, Jessica won three Teen Choice Awards. Jessica also launched a line of bath and beauty products, called Dessert Beauty in 2004. Newlyweds went on to receive a People’s Choice Award in 2005, however, the show was cancelled soon afterwards.

Debuting in her first major film as Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard, Jessica’s song from the movie soundtrack, “These Boots Are Made For Walkin” won a People’s Choice Award in 2006. Her acting career took a tumble, however, when she was nominated for a Razzie Award as critics downed her acting skills.

In November of 2005, Jessica and her husband, Nick, announced they were getting divorced and soon it became part of the tabloids. Divorce has not stopped Jessica and she is moving on toward a bright career. Her next album is due to be released in 2006 and she’ll be appearing in a new movie, Employee of the Month and has signed on for a third movie, Major Movie Star. She’s recently launched a new shoe collection, as well as being the spokesperson for Operation Smile, an organization the helps to provide reconstruction surgery to children with deformities. She has also appeared as a celebrity spokesperson for Proactiv Solution, an acne treatment program.

Recently, Jessica was nominated for two 2006 MTV Movie Awards, Sexiest Performance in Dukes of Hazzard and Best On-Screen Team Performance with Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott for their performances on Dukes of Hazzard. Jessica Simpson has proven herself to be a star to be reckoned with and will continue to shine.
